Double-Glazed Oak Extension on Listed Building in Guildford
Location
Situated in Guildford, Surrey
The property
The property is a grade II listed farmhouse set on the hilltop, overlooking the cathedral.
The process
1 -
We were contracted to design, build, and glaze the oak frame directly by the clients. This came from a recommendation from our good friend Alex Reilly at Reilly’s Construction, who took on the role of principle contractor and project manager.
2 -
Design drawings were provided in-house and a fee for our works was offered and accepted.
3 -
A timber list was provided and approved, the oak was then sourced and delivered to our workshop and the build commenced.
4 -
The oak frame was fabricated using traditional jointing techniques and rebates for the doors were formed.
5 -
Upon completion, the frame was disassembled and transported to site.
6 -
The frame was erected within a day and the double-glazed units were fitted to the oak frame using a tried and tested capping board system. This method allows the oak frame to shrink throughout the drying process, whilst ensuring the glass units are not stressed and will provide an air and water-tight seal for years to come.
